OVERVIEW: As a Liquor Tax Examiner with the Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations (BABLO), you will play an important role in the regulation of Maine’s beverage alcohol industry. You will be part of a collaborative team responsible for conducting audits, assisting businesses with compliance and more. You will go to work every day knowing that you are an important part of a team that keeps the people of Maine safe. This is intermediate-level regulatory work that offers opportunities for limited remote work, professional development, and career advancement both within the Bureau and across Maine State Government. BABLO provides training for new employees, so direct experience in liquor regulation or tax examination is not required. REPRESENTATIVE TASKS: Review, compare, and validate excise tax reports and supporting financial records submitted by wholesalers and Certificate of Approval holders of malt liquor and wine. Conduct audits of invoices, reports, and other financial and regulatory records. Issuing approvals or denials of alcoholic beverage label registrations and related regulatory filings.
