Ghost jobs
A ghost job is a posting for a role nobody is really hiring for right now. We can't see inside a company, but we can see how its postings behave: how long they stay up, whether they come back, and what they say. From that we estimate the odds that a posting is a ghost listing, for every job on the board and every employer below. It's an estimate, not an accusation, and the method is spelled out at the bottom.

Every US accounting posting we track is read from the employer's own career site, and kept after it closes. For each posting we start from a starting chance and adjust it for each sign it shows:

Employer odds are the average over all of an employer's postings, pulled toward the overall 12% when they have few postings (as if they had 8 extra average postings), so a handful of odd postings can't put a small employer at the top. Employers need 5+ postings to be rated. Postings open a long time at employers that hire "multiple positions" count for less, since those are often real, ongoing hiring.
Low is under 20%, Medium 20 to 39%, High 40% and up.
What this can't tell you. None of these signs proves a job is fake. Slow hiring, hard-to-fill roles and real repeat hiring all look similar from the outside. The multipliers are our judgment, not measured from known ghost jobs; once the LinkedIn check has a few months of results we will test them against it and adjust. Tracking began in late September 2026, so long-open and repost counts grow over time. Updated every 6 hours.
